Death of the Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. Paolo Giglioni.
founding Executive Secretary of IACM.

We regret to inform our members of the death of the Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. Paolo Giglioni. Prof. Giglioni was called to the Lord on March 31st 2002, the Easter Sunday of the Resurrection. Born at Badia St Salvatore in the Province of Siena, Italy, Prof. Giglioni was a Catholic priest of the Diocese of  Montepulciano –Chiusi-Pienza. He had his doctorate degrees in Liturgy from the St Anselm Pontifical Academy and in Missiology from the Gregorian Pontifical University in Rome. He began teaching at the Urban Pontifical University, Rome in 1978, and until his death he held the chair of Pastoral Mission Theology in the Faculty of Missiology of the University, where he had also served as the Dean of the Faculty till 1998.

Prof. Giglioni was the founding Executive Secretary of IACM. He coordinated both the Great Jubilee Year 2000 International  Missiological Congress and the First Plenary Assembly of IACM in Rome. A prolific writer and a missiological worker of the first hour, Prof. Giglioni has dedicated himself chiefly to the study of the inculturation of the Christian liturgy in the context of missio ad gentes. Gifted with personal good human relations, he assumed the duty of spokesperson for the promotion of the study of missiology in ecclesiastical institutions and for the establishment of organs of net-work of information and sharing among experts in mission studies world-wide.

We send our condolences to members of his family, friends and the Urban Pontifical University. May the Risen Lord in whose mission he had participated, grant him eternal repose. Amen.

Francis A. Oborji, Executive Secretary.
